Mohammad Yamin MOHAMMAD YAMIN

 

Life history

 

Mr. Mohammad Yamin is the former Managing Director and Chief Executive of Commercial Trust Bank, now an Author, Columnist and Poet in both English and Urdu languages. Before working abroad he was Second Vice President and Secretary Executive Board in United Bank Ltd., Pakistan

Born on June 21 1938 in Ghazipur, India, brought up and educated in erstwhile East Pakistan, he is now settled in Portugal. Working for an International Bank in Nigeria during seventies and eighties, he organised many Mushairas in the cities of Lagos, Kaduna and Kano, which were attended by poets from India and Pakistan working in different cities of Nigeria. During this period his collection of Ghazals titled Ash-hab-e-khayal was published in Karachi.

Social Services

He was associated with Humanitarian Services in erstwhile East Pakistan, Pakistan and Nigeria and helped in several social programs. He was elected as the Deputy District Governor of Lions International in Nigeria.

Literary Services

He became a member of the International Society of Poets, USA, Neopoet and PoetrySoup. His poems have won many Awards. His poem, “The Flame of Thoughts” won a Bronze Medal in October 2006 from the International Library of Poetry. Another poem “Frost Bitten Leaf” won cash prize and a Certificate from PoetrySoup.

On November 8, 2010 in a joint Function of Pakistan Academy of Letters and Kana-e-Farhang Iran in Karachi  he was Awarded the shield of Youm-e-Iqbal & Tauqeer-e-Ahle Qalam  for 2010. The Shield was presented to him by the Consul General of Iran, Karachi His Excellency, Abbas Ali Abdullahi. The occasion received wide media coverage.

Occasionally he writes articles for English Newspapers in Karachi and in literary magazines in Islamabad and Karachi.

He has three publications and several in the process of publishing.
